Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus in Parliament

The Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus was established on 6^th April 2006 in the 6^th Parliament as a common platform to carry forward the agenda on gender issues.

In 7^th Parliament it was consisted of 13 women Members of Parliament and continued from 07 October 2010 and the Hon. (Mrs.) Sumedha G. Jayasena was the Chair of the Caucus.

The Caucus was reinstituted under the Chairmanship of Hon. (Mrs.) Chandrani Bandara on 23 September 2015, consisted of 13 women Members of Parliament in the 8^th Parliament to work together for the empowerment of women in political, economic and social spheres and for elimination of all sorts of violence & harassments against them in this country.

The Caucus has been working throughout the past 14 years very successfully without any political differences, it was able to make a significant impact in the country through advocacy in Parliament, organizing national conferences and conducting outreach programmes.

The Caucus had also created a network of partnership with the women Provincial Councilors and Members of the Local Government Bodies, Government Ministries, Departments and Institutions, United Nations Agencies, Local & International Civil Society Organizations and individual professionals
