Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister of Foreign Relations and Minister of Skills Development, Employment and Labour Relations and Leader of the House of Parliament replied to the above Question.


Ministerial Statements

Minister of Foreign Relations and Minister of Skills Development, Employment and Labour Relations and Leader of the House of Parliament, the Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena replied to the Question raised by the Hon. Sajith Premadasa under the Standing Order 27(2) of the Parliament on 08.01.2020 regarding the political revenge on public sector employees.

(i)    Committee o‍f Selection

That notwithstanding the provisions of Standing Order 114 of the Parliament, the Committee of Selection shall consist of the Speaker as the Chair and Seventeen (17) Members which shall include the leaders of the political parties or their nominees to be nominated by Parliament to serve in the current Session

(ii)    Committee of Selection

That in terms of the motion agreed to by Parliament this day the undermentioned Seventeen (17) Members do serve in the Committee of Selection during the current Session:—

Private Members’ Bills

The Hon. (Ven.) Athuraliye Rathana Thero was granted leave to introduce the,

“Bill to repeal the Kandyan Marriage and Divorce Act, No. 44 of 1952”

The above Bill was referred to the Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils & Local Government for report to Parliament under Standing Order 52 (6) of the Parliament.


Main Business of the House for Today

Nine Regulations under the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act (appearing as Item No. 1 to 9 of today’s Order Paper)

were approved by the House.


Motion at the Adjournment Time

Motion at the Adjournment Time on “School admission for Grade 1 in 2020” was proposed by the Hon. Nihal Galappaththi.


The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1918 Hrs. until 1300 Hrs. on Wednesday 22nd January 2020.
