1756/2017: DEATHS CAUSED BY WILD BOAR ATTACKS: COMPENSATION

1756/’17

Hon. Lucky Jayawardana,—To ask the Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife,—

(a) Will he admit— 

(i) that people have been attacked by wild boars at present;

(ii) arrangements have been made to pay compensation amounting to   Rs. 200,000/- for the loss of life caused by attacks by wild elephants, crocodiles, bears, leopards and wild buffalos irrespective of differences in gender and age;

(iii) there is no such arrangement in the event of deaths caused by wild boars?

(b) Will he inform this House—

(i) whether he will admit that a mechanism should be implemented speedily to pay compensation to victims of wild boar attacks who live in penury;

(ii) if so, whether a compensation mechanism will be implemented promptly;

(iii) if so, the date on which it will be done?

(c) If not, why?
