Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam,— To ask the Minister of Livestock and Rural Community Development,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the population of buffalos available in Sri Lanka at present;
(ii) of the five districts with the highest buffalo population in the descending order;
(iii) the number of buffalos reared by the government farms;
(iv) of the names of breeds of buffalos that are reared in Sri Lanka;
(v) of the annual production of buffalo milk in liters; and
(vi) whether milk extracted from buffalos and cattle differ from each other in their nutritional value?
(b) Will he state—
(i) whether a methodology is available to utilize the buffalos towards the local dairy production efficiently;
(ii) if so, of the programmes that have been implemented under that; and
(iii) of the funds that have been spent in the year 2013 for projects related to buffalos?
(c) If not, why?
