Hon. Sugath Wasantha de Silva,— To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education,— (1)
(a) Will she state the number of —
(i) special schools where students with disabilities study;
(ii) male and female students studying in them, separately by their disability;
(iii) teachers serving in the said special schools;
(iv) existing vacancies for teachers in them;
(v) special education units in Sri Lanka;
(vi) male and female students studying in those units, separately by their disability;
(vii) teachers serving in these units; and
(viii) existing vacancies for teachers in these units?
(b) Will she also state —
(i) the number of teachers who despite having been appointed for special education, are currently teaching other subjects;
(ii) the measures that will be taken to ensure these teachers are employed in special education;
(iii) whether training programmes are conducted for teachers of special education;
(iv) the names of the institutes that conduct them;
(v) the measures that will be taken to update the Acts relating to special education; and
(vi) the measures and policy decisions that will be taken regarding special education through the proposed new education reforms?
(c) If not, why?
