Presentation of Bills

Appropriation (2010)

The Hon. Prime Minister and Minister of Buddha Sasana and Religious Affairs moved a Bill to provide for the service of the financial year 2010; to authorize the raising of loans in or outside Sri Lanka, for the purpose of such service; to make financial provision in respect of certain activities of the Government during that financial year; to enable the payment by way of advances out of the Consolidated Fund or any other fund or moneys, of or at the disposal of the Government, of moneys required during that financial year for expenditure on such activities; to provide for the refund of such moneys to the Consolidated Fund and to make provision for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.


The Hon. Lakshman Kiriella was granted leave to introduce the following Bills:-
  1. Atharagalla United Community Development Foundation (Incorporation)
  2. All Island Bhikshu Benevolent Development Foundation (Incorporation)
The Hon. Karu Jayasuriya was granted leave to introduce the following Bills:-
  1. Piliyandala Dharmashastrodaya Piriven Viharastha Sanwardhana Sabhawa (Incorporation)
  2. Vidyawasa Social Service Association Limited (Incorporation)
The Hon. Chandima Weerakkody was granted leave to introduce the Bill, entitled "Rehabilitation of Buddhist Temples Foundation (Incorporation)".

Resolution under the Public Security Ordinance

Resolution moved by the Hon. Prime Minister, Minister of Buddhasasana & Religious Affairs that the Proclamation made by the President under Section 2 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40), as amended by Act, No. 8 of 1959, Law No. 6 of 1978, and Act, No. 28 of 1988, bringing into operation the provisions of Part II of the aforesaid Ordinance throughout Sri Lanka with effect from 02nd June 2010, was approved.

Accordingly, the Emergency Motion was approved by Parliament with a majority of 68 votes, extending it for another month. 121 votes were cast in favour of the motion while 53 votes were against it.


The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1635 Hrs. until 0930 Hrs. on Wednesday 9th June 2010.
