Ministerial Statements

Hon. Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Minister of Agriculture made a Ministerial Statement regarding the use of organic fertilizer.

 

Presentation of Bills

The Hon. Minister of Justice moved the following Bills entitled,

(i)        “Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) (Temporary Provisions)” - to make temporary provisions in relation to situations where persons were unable to perform certain actions required by law to be performed within the prescribed time periods due to Covid-19 circumstances; to assign alternative courts where a court cannot function due to Covid-19 circumstances; to conduct court proceedings using remote communication technology to facilitate the control of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19); to grant relief in relation to parties to certain contracts who were unable to perform contractual obligations due to Covid-19 circumstances and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

(ii)        Convention Against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (Amendment)  - to amend the Convention Against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment Act, No. 22 of 1994.

 

Main Business of the House for Today

The following Items (appearing as Item Nos. 1 to 11 of today’s Order Paper) were approved by the House:-

(i)       Fiscal Management (Responsibility) (Amendment) Bill -     Second Reading
(ii)       Nine Resolutions under the Appropriation Act
(iii)       Regulations under the Imports and  Exports (Control) Act

 

Adjournment Motion

Adjournment Motion on “Prevailing Situation of the Country” was proposed by the Hon. R. M. Ranjith Madduma Bandara.

 

The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1630  Hrs. until 1000 Hrs. on Tuesday 22nd June 2021.
