Ministerial Statements

Non Cabinet Minister of Mass Media and State Minister of Defence, the Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene replied to the Question raised by the Hon. Anura Dissanayaka under the Standing Order 27(2) of the Parliament on 22.02.2019 regarding crisis in Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.

House agreed to the following Motions moved by the Hon. Lakshman Kiriella, the Leader of the House of Parliament-

(i)    Ministerial Consultative Committees

That notwithstanding the resolution adopted by Parliament on 24th January 2019, the designations of the following Ministerial Consultative Committees shall be re-designated as follows as per the decision taken by the Committee of Selection on 28th March 2019

•    The Ministerial Consultative Committee on Finance and Mass Media as  the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Finance;
•    The Ministerial Consultative Committee on National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development, Vocational Training & Skills Development and Youth Affairs as the Ministerial Consultative Committee on National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs; and
•    The Ministerial Consultative Committee on Industry & Commerce, Resettlement of Protracted Displaced Persons and Co-operative Development as the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Industry & Commerce, Resettlement of Protracted Displaced Persons, Co-operative Development and Vocational Training & Skills Development.

(ii)    Ministerial Consultative Committees

That notwithstanding the provisions of Standing Order 112 (1) of the Parliament the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Mass Media be appointed to be designated as per the decision taken on 28th March, 2019 by the Committee of Selection.
That Ministerial Consultative Committee shall consist of the Non-Cabinet Minister in charge of the relevant subject as the Chair, State Minister, Deputy Minister and Five (05) other Members of Parliament to be nominated by the Committee of Selection to discuss and report upon such matters as are referred to it.

The quorum of above Ministerial Consultative Committee shall be three (03) Members.

(iii)    Ministerial Consultative Committees

That notwithstanding the provisions of Standing Order 112 (1) of the Parliament and the resolution adopted by Parliament on 24th January 2019, the following Ministerial Consultative Committees shall consist of Cabinet Minister or Non-Cabinet Minister in charge of the relevant subject as the Chair, State Minister, Deputy Minister and Seven (07) other Members of Parliament to be nominated by the Committee of Selection, as per the decision taken on 28th March 2019, by the Committee of Selection:—

i.    Ministerial Consultative Committee on Defence;
ii.    Ministerial Consultative Committee on Mahaweli Development & Environment;
iii.    Ministerial Consultative Committee on National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs;
iv.    Ministerial Consultative Committee on Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs;
v.    Ministerial Consultative Committee on Buddhasasana & Wayamba Development;
vi.    Ministerial Consultative Committee on Finance;
vii.    Ministerial Consultative Committee on City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education;
viii.    Ministerial Consultative Committee on Foreign Affairs;
ix.    Ministerial Consultative Committee on Health, Nutrition & Indigenous Medicine;

Motion at the Adjournment Time

Motion at the Adjournment Time on “Renovation of Kachchalsamalangkulam tank and other tanks in Vavuniya” was proposed by the Hon. I. Charles Nirmalanathan.


The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1918 Hrs. until 0930 Hrs. on Wednesday 3rd April 2019.
