As in the Past years this year too, Lakshmi Pooja which is observed to invoke the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, who blesses the Human race with wealth, was held during the Navarathri festive season at the Speaker’s residence. This event was inspired by the Honourable Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara, and organized by the Honourable Deputy Speaker, and Honourable Deputy Chairman of Committees with the help of the staff of the Secretary General of Parliament and sponsored by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Department of Hindu Religious and Cultural Affairs.
In the evening of October 17th, upon the invitation of the Honourable Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara, Honourable Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake took part in this event as the chief guest. Honourable Deputy Speaker, Honourable Deputy Chairman of Committees, Ministers, Members of Parliament, and Foreign Delegates were also present.
The Pooja which was a treat and a healer to the eyes and mind was expertly conducted by Brahmasri Vengada Subramaniya Kurukkal and Sathiyanaaraayana Kurukkal of Dehiwela, Vishnu Temple. An orchestra of Nadaswaram was also arranged for the event.
Bharatha Naatiya recitals and Musical recitals were also performed after the Pooja. The dance performance by the dancers including Divya Sivanesan and Geeth de Silva of Colombo Abinaya Shethra was highly appreciated by the audience. The innovative orchestra performed by “Nadaswara Isai Aruvi” V.K. Panjamoorthy and Kumaran Music group was enjoyable. The traditional Classical Sinhala musical event was a special feature of this event and did not fail to receive the praises of the gathering.
This Pooja, held in the “Navarathri” festive season, during which Hindu devotees worship for Wisdom, Wealth and Energy, was an event to safe guard the cultural values of mother Lanka, and also was an event which sought for the most required peace and harmony.
