Hon. Douglas Devananda,—To ask the Minister of Science, Technology, Research, Skills Development & Vocational Training and Kandyan Heritage,—(1)
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) the government technical college in the Jaffna district receives a lare number of applications annually for vocational training but only a limited number of applicants are selected;
(ii) thousands of unemployed youth in the Jaffna district lose the opportunity of receiving training from this technical college;
(iii) an extent of 6 acres belonging to the Weeerasingham Central College in Meesalei in Thenmarachchi area has been given for constructing another technical college in the Jaffna district for the benefit of those young persons; and
(iv) the project proposal sent to the National Planning Department by the authorities of the Department of Vocational Training that inspected the said land, has been approved?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether financial allocations have been made to commence the preliminary work relating to the construction of the Meesalai new technical college; and
(ii) if so, the date on which the construction work of the said technical college would commence?
(c) If not, why?
