Hon. (Mrs.) Rohini Kumari Wijerathna,—To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs,—
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) separately, in respect of each Grama Niladhari division , of the number of small tanks and weirs which are fed only by rain water presently, and which are situated in low elevation of the main canal in the downstream of 20 Kilometers through Dambulla and Galewela Divisional Secretariat Divisions and coming under the Wayamba Canal project operated by the Department of Irrigation under the “Mahaweli Suraksithatha” investment programme;
(ii) whether Wayamba canal feeds all aforesaid tanks and weirs systems;
(iii) whether plans have been made in that regard by now ;
(iv) separately, of the names of the tanks that are fed and not fed by Wayamba Canal project;
(v) whether it doesn’t cause an injustice on the farming communities of Dambulla and Galewela when water is provided to North Western province without feeding the tanks and weirs that are located in low elevations of the main canal ;
(vi) as a remedial action whether plans will be prepared and implemented in order to supply water to the tanks that are not fed; and
(vii) if so, of aforesaid date?
(b) If not , why ?
