1679/2017: BATTICALOA TEACHING HOSPITAL: SHORTAGE OF WARDS

Hon. Seyed Ali Zahir Moulana,— To ask the  Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine,—

(a) Will he state this House—

(i) number and names of wards available in the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital;

(ii) number of beds available and  number of patients currently admitted in each ward;

(iii) names of all Consultants and their relevant medical fields; and

(iv) details of assignment of wards to these Consultants?

(b) Is he aware that—

(i) there is a shortage of wards for the assignments of Consultants;

(ii) normal patients and patients with serious diseases needing intensive medical care are put on the floor and verandah in some wards due to lack of space and beds;

(iii) land available in the premises for the construction of additional wards; and

(iv) this is the teaching hospital assigned for medical undergraduates of the Eastern University?

(c) Will he inform this House—

(i) whether he will give top priority and order for release of allocation for the construction of urgently required wards; and

(ii) if so, when?

(d) If not, why?
