Hon. (Al-Haj) A.H.M. Azwer,— To ask the Minister of Fisheries And Aquatic Resources Development,—
(a) Will he state—
(i) the number of registered institutions in Sri Lanka that exports ornamental fish ;
(ii) the total income generated through the export of ornamental fish in the year 2009 ;
(iii) whether it is a rise or a decline of income in comparison to the previous year ; and
(iv) the percentage of the demand for ornamental fish in the international market, that was met by Sri Lanka in the year 2009?
(b) Will he state whether—
(i) species of fish, threatened with extinction owing to excessive use in the ornamental fish industry, have been identified ;
(ii) there are plans for the promotion of export of ornamental fish ; and
(iii) if so, what they are?
(c) If not, why?
