Hon. (Dr.) Nalinda Jayathissa,—To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs,—
(a) Is he aware that –
(i) two quarries are being operated at Kumbaduwa area,
in Meegahathenna belonging to the Walallawita Divisional Secretariat Division;
(ii) they have caused a massive damage to the environment; and
(iii) large number of houses in the surrounding area have been damaged due to these quarries?
(b) Will he inform this House –
(i) whether it has been reported that nearby paddy fields have been filled by the owners of those quarries; and
(ii) the reason for not cancelling the quarry permits by the
Central Environmental Authority at a time the residents have continuously lodged complaints regarding the matter?
(c) If not, why?
