Hon. Buddhika Pathirana,— To ask the Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development,—
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) the number of raids conducted in connection with illegal liquor in the years 2014 and 2015;
(ii) the types of liquor seized in litres at these raids separately; and
(iii) the number of persons arrested in this connection?
(b) Will he admit the facts that—
(i) the persons arrested at these raids return to liquor trade upon being released from prison; and
(ii) the inadequate punishments and the non availability of a mechanism to direct those persons to alternative avenues of income have mainly resulted in occurring the situation mentioned in (i) above?
(c) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether measures have been adopted to remove the persons who are involved in the illegal liquor trade; and
(ii) if so, what those measures are?
(d) If not, why?
