Hon. Vidura Wickramanayaka,— To ask Minister of Social Empowerment and Welfare,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) the Victoria Home situated in Rajagiriya consists of 14 wards and 153 persons with incurable disabilities reside in it;
(ii) approximately 08 million rupees is annually provided by the government for all the expenses of the residents of this Home and for administrative expenses including water and electricity bills and the salaries of the staff;
(iii) the aforesaid amount of money is not adequate for the said matters;
(iv) the existing staff is insufficient but new recruitments cannot be made because the salaries paid to the employees are not sufficient; and
(v) there is an issue with regard to obtaining an optimum service from the employees who have been mentally distressed as a result of not having sufficient staff quarters and due to not getting an adequate salary?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether action will be taken to increase the salaries and to provide other facilities to obtain an optimum service from the present employees; and
(ii) whether action will be taken to recruit employees anew?
(c) If not, why?
