0565/2016: Horana Royal College - O/L failed students discriminated

565/’16

Hon. Vidura Wickramanayaka,— To ask Minister of Education,—

(a) Is he aware that—

(i) the Principal of Royal College, Horana, contrary to the instructions issued by the Circulars, has removed from school nearly 30 students sitting for the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination in 2016, who had sat the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination for the first time and failed in  Mathematics; and

(ii) those students and their parents have been highly inconvenienced as a result of actions that demoralize  the students such as cancelling the Character Certificates issued to certain students?

(b) Will he admit that depriving those students of the opportunity to have school education is a deprivation of free education facilities as the period of next few months before the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination is the time when students are prepared to face the examination in a more satisfactory manner?

(c) Will he also inform this House—

(i) whether it is the duty of a Principal to demoralize the students who are to take over the future of Sri Lanka; and

(ii) of the measures will be taken to solve this problem that has arisen as a result of the conduct of the Principal?

(d) If not, why?
