Hon. Seyed Ali Zahir Moulana,— To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs,—

(a) Is he aware that approximately 1500 families residing in Kaludawala village of Batticaloa  District engage in betel cultivation as their main livelihood activity?

(b) Will he inform this House—

(i) whether it has been banned to cut and transport the “supporting stakes for betel” from Rottakulam area of Pothuvil, which are essential for a successful betel cultivation; and

(ii) if so, whether action will be taken to authorize them to do the above as per Circular No: Supporting stakes for betel 2011 and dated 13.05.2014 of the Department of Forest Conservation?

(c) If not, why?
