0480/2016: Control price for Rubber not effected

480/’16

Hon. Kanaka Herath,— To ask the Minister of Plantation Industries,—

(a) Is he aware that—

(i) the occupation of the majority of the people, who are living in Kegalle and Kalutara districts, is rubber tapping;

(ii) the prices of latex and dry sheet rubber, are in a lower level since few months; and

(iii) the government stipulated a control price of Rs. 350/- for a kilogram of  rubber, as a remedial measure?

(b) Will he admit that the stipulated control price is not effective in the market by now?

(c) Will he inform this House, if so, of the measures that will be taken on behalf of the people whose livelihood is rubber tapping?

(d) If not, why?
