Hon. Kanaka Herath,— To ask the Minister of Industry and Commerce,—
(a) Will he inform this House in respect of the year 2015—
(i) the total quantity of sugar that was consumed by the Sri Lankans in metric tons;
(ii) the quantity of sugar that was imported out of the total quantity consumed;
(iii) the value of the quantity of sugar that was imported; and
(iv) the quantity of sugar that was manufactured at local sugar factories?
(b) Will he also inform this House —
(i) separately, the quantity of sugar manufactured by local factories in years 2014 and 2015; and
(ii) whether there was an increase in the production of sugar in the year 2015 when compared with the year 2014?
(c) If not, why?
