Hon. T. Ranjith De Zoysa,— To ask the Minister of Agriculture,—
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) of the extent of land in hectares that has been brought under paddy cultivation in Maha season of year 2015;
(ii) whether supplies of fertilizer adequate for the aforesaid extent of paddy lands were available in the country at that time; and
(iii) if so, the reason for the shortage of fertilizer?
(b) Will he also inform this House —
(i) whether he is aware of the fact that N.P.K. fertilizer needed by farmers for basic surface application was not available in the market at that time;
(ii) whether steps were taken speedily to provide farmers with sufficient amounts of urea needed for the second application; and
(iii) of the period of time that was needed for such action?
(c) If not, why?
