Hon. Sunil Handunnetti,— To ask the Minister of Economic Development,—
(a) Will he admit that —
(i) as pointed out by the Auditor General’s report for the year 2006, a private consultant has been appointed and that he has been paid Rs 12,228,679/= for the preparation of plans and estimates under the rehabilitation project of the tsunami affected areas ( rehabilitation of the Southern Province);
(ii) the handing over of an unimportant part of the project to an outside party despite a major part of it being fulfilled by public officials is a non-economic transaction?
(b) Will he submit to this House the name, the post, the educational qualifications and the technical qualifications of this consultant?
(c) Will he admit that the aforesaid payment of money was a wastage of public funds?
(d) If not, why?
