0296/2016: MEDADUMBARA PRADESHIYA SABHA: CONSTRUCTION OF SHOPPING COMPLEX

Hon. M. H. M. Salman,— To ask the  Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government,—

(a) Will he inform this House—

(i) whether it has been planned to construct a shopping complex for the business community under the Puraneguma Project by the Medadumbara Pradeshiya Sabha of Kandy District; and

(ii) if so, of the methodology which will be adopted in awarding stores of the aforesaid shopping complex?

(b) Will he also inform this House whether instructions will be given to consider the directives stipulated in clauses 3 and 5 of the Circular                No.1980/46 of the Commissioner of Local Government, with regard to handing over the aforesaid stores, as the pavement hawkers selling clothes who were previously paying taxes to the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka and now to the Pradeshiya Sabha have been subjected to serious injustice?

(c) If not, why?

                        The earlier proposal on construction of a shopping complex was cancelled and priority has been given for the project proposal on improvement of internal  roads in Teldeniya city and it is  being implemented now. 

              (ii)        Does not arise.
