Hon. S. M. Marikkar,— To ask the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development,—
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) whether steps will be taken to remove the garbage dump at Meetotamulla;
(ii) the number of applicants who have applied for the recycling programme of Meetotamulla garbage dump for which tenders were called for by the Urban Development Authority;
(iii) of the government’s intervention in this regard; and
(iv) the date on which this recycling programme will commence?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether recycling garbage in the Colombo city will be taken up under the first phase of the recycling programme;
(ii) whether recycling of garbage dump at Meetotamulla will be taken up next, under the 2nd phase;
(iii) whether a programme in collaboration with the Colombo Municipal Council has been put in place to deliver justice to the general public living around this garbage dump and are affected by it; and
(iv) if so, whether he will present a detailed report in that regard?
(c) If not, why?
