0194/2015: LTTE suspects and convicted in Custody

Hon. Jayantha Samaraweera,— To ask the Minister of Prisons Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs,—

(a) Will he inform this House of the number of individuals who have become suspects and the  number of individuals who have been punished in relation to offences under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, as a result of their involvement in terrorist activities of the L.T.T.E., separately?

(b) Will he table separately, the names, nature of the offences committed and the prison and the number of the cell where he/she is currently detained, separately as per each prisoner?

(c) Will he also inform this House of the number of L.T.T.E. suspects and prisoners who have been enlarged on bail and released within the period from January 2015 to 20th  October 2015?

(d) Will he also table the name, the court which enlarged him/her on bail or released him/her, the prison camp and the date of release, with respect to each individual separately?

(e) Will he further inform this House—

(i) whether the government has taken a decision to treat the individuals punished for offences related to terrorist activities by the L.T.T.E. as political prisoners; and

(ii) if so, the grounds on which such a decision has been taken?

(f) If not, why?
