Hon. Chandima Gamage,— To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs,—
(a) Is he aware that the Forest Conservation Department is making arrangements to take legal action asking the farmers who make living by, Chena cultivation and engaging in Animal husbandry in the North Central province and in other provinces in Sri Lanka to leave their ancestral lands?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether he is aware that the Chena cultivators and Dairy farmers are on the verge of losing their livelihood;
(ii) if so, will he inform this House the reasons for that?
(c) Will he also inform this House—
(i) the date on which the law with regard to the dispossession of ancestral lands will come into effect;
(ii) whether the relevant boundary limits of forest reserves have been expanded;
(iii) if so, the Districts in which the boundary limits were expanded and the extent of land expanded in those Districts that comes under those boundary limits separately;
(iv) whether it is expected to take a compassionate course of action with regard to these farmers in the future;
(v) the time frame needed to accomplish this task;
(vi) the measures that will be taken to prevent the collapse of livelihood of those farmers until such time?
(d) If not, why?
