Hon. Buddhika Pathirana,— To ask the Minister of Disaster Management,—
(a) Is he aware that the Meteorological Department has failed to deliver credible weather forecasts using outdated technical equipment they are having at present?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether action will be taken to provide human and sophisticated physical resources to the Meteorological Department;
(ii) if so, what those state-of-the-art technical equipment are;
(iii) the purposes for which those aforesaid equipment will be used;
(iv) the amount of money will be spent for the aforesaid equipment; and
(v) the date on which those modern equipment will be provided?
(c) If not, why?

(අ) වර්තමානයේ කාලගුණ විද්යා දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව සතුව තිබෙන දියුණු තාක්ෂණික උපකරණ කිහිපය මගින් පෙරට වඩා නිවැරදි කාලගුණ අනාවැකි පවසනු ලබයි.
(ආ) (i) ඔව්.
(ii) ලබා දීමට බලාපොරොත්තු වන උපකරණ නම්,
දත්ත එක් රැස් කිරීම, තත්ත්ව පාලනය සහ ලේඛනගත කිරීමේ පද්ධති (Data collection, quality and archival system)
ගණිතමය අනාවැකි පළ කිරීමේ පද්ධති (Numerical weather prediction suite)
ස්වයංක්රීය කාලගුණ පද්ධති (Automatic weather systems)
අකුණු හඳුනා ගැනීමේ පද්ධති (Lightning detection systems)
ඉහළ වායුගෝලීය දත්ත ලබා ගැනීමේ පද්ධති (Radiosonde systems)
ඉහළ වායුගෝල සුළං ලබා ගැනීමේ පද්ධති (Wind profiler systems)
ස්වයංක්රීය දත්ත හුවමාරු පද්ධති (Message switching systems)
(iii) කාලගුණ අනාවැකිකරණ හැකියාව වර්ධනය කිරීම සඳහා එම නවීන උපකරණ භාවිත කරනු ලබයි.
(iv) එම උපකරණ සඳහා වැය වන මුදල රුපියල් මිලියන 1,975ක් ලෙස ඇස්තමේන්තු කර ඇත.
(v) අවශ්ය මූල්ය ප්රතිපාදන සොයා ගැනීමෙන් පසුව අනුමත ව්යාපෘතිය ආරම්භ කිරීමත් සමග නවීන තාක්ෂණික උපකරණ ලබා දීම සිදු කරනු ඇත.
