0009/2016: Floating Armory in Galle Harbor

Hon. (Dr.) Nalinda Jayathissa,— To ask the Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development,—

(a) Is he aware that weapons and bullets were discoverd in the ship named “Mahanuwara” which was berthed at Galle Harbour and at the Southern Naval Base of Sri Lanka and in a building belong to its Seva Vanitha Unit  at a search carried out by the Galle Harbour Police on 18.08.2015?

(b) Will he inform this House—

(i) of  the individual or the institution with legal ownership of  the weapons and bullets disclosed by the Police;

(ii) of the Act under which those weapons have been transferred to an individual or an institution;

(iii) if so, the authority who authorized such transfer;

(iv) of the country and the year in which those weapons were manufactured and the  license obtained; and

(v) of the method adopted in purchasing those weapons and the amount spent for that purpose?

(c) Will he state—

(i) whether permission has been granted for maintaining this floating armoury in harbour premises;

(ii) the authority who granted such permission;

(iii) whether Avant-garde pays any fee in that respect; and

(iv) if so, the amount paid in that manner?

(d) Will he also inform this House—

(i) whether he, as the Minister in charge of the subject, accepts the conclusions  of the Attorney General in this regard; and

(ii) whether a Parliamentary Committee will be appointed in this connection?

(e) If not, why?
