Hon. Dunesh Gankanda,— To ask the Minister of Higher Education,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the number of university students who have become entitled to bursary in the year 2013; and
(ii) whether he admits that the bursary has not been increased within a period of nearly eight years and that the said monthly allowance is not sufficient at all for a university student when compared with the current prices of goods and services?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether attention will be paid to increase the bursary to a minimum of five thousand rupees (Rs.5000/=) in the light of the current prices of goods and services and nearly eight year period within which it was not increased; and
(ii) if so, the date on which such increase will be effected?
