Hon. P. Harrison,— To ask the Minister of Agriculture,—

(a) Will he state—

(i) the number of seed farms coming under the Department of Agriculture;

(ii) separately, the number of farms conducting research on paddy, other types of grain and other matters out of those farms; and

(iii) separately, the number of hectares of land belonging to each farm ?

(b) Will he also state—

(i) the new varieties of crops which were discovered through research conducted between 2005 to 2012 by the Mahailluppallama Field Crop Research and Development Institute;

(ii) the number of crops which have been introduced to farmers out of those new crops;

(iii) separately, the new types of paddy which have been introduced by the Bathalagoda Agri Research Institute and other Agri Research Institutes up to now as per each of the institute;

(iv) the number of varieties of Basmathi rice which have been discovered in Sri Lanka;

(v) the names of those types of Basmathi rice and the names of the institutions which discovered them;

(vi) whether there are places from which the seeds of new types of rice, grains, fruits and vegetables that have been discovered up to now, can be purchased; and

(vii) the names of those places ?

ගරු කථානායකතුමනි, මා එම ප්‍රශ්නයට පිළිතුර දෙනවා.

(අ) (i) 20කි.

(ii) මෙම බීජ ගොවිපළවල පර්යේෂණ කටයුතු සිදු නොකරන අතර බීජ නිෂ්පාදනය වැනි සංවර්ධන කටයුතු පමණක් සිදු කරයි.

(iii)

(iv) සම්මත බාස්මතී වී වර්ගයක් වීම සඳහා ඊට අදාළ ගුණාංග කිහිපයක් සම්පූර්ණ විය යුතු වුවත්, දේශීය පාරිසරික තත්ත්වයන් යටතේ එම ගුණාත්මක තත්ත්වයෙන් යුතු ප්‍රභේද නිෂ්පාදනය අසීරුය. කෙසේ වෙතත් බතලගොඩ වී පර්යේෂණ හා සංවර්ධන ආයතනය මඟින් ද මෙම බාස්මතී වී වර්ග නිපදවීම අත් හදා බලා ඇත. ඒ අනුව බාස්මතී ගුණාංගවලට ආසන්න ගුණ ඇති වර්ග දෙකක් නිපදවා ඇත.

(v) At 306 ප්‍ර‍භේදය - අම්බලන්තොට වී පර්යේෂණ ආයතනය.

At 405 ප්‍ර‍භේදය - අම්බලන්තොට වී පර්යේෂණ ආයතනය.
