Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam,— To ask the Minister of Transport,—
(a) Is he aware that the Department of Railways has lost earnings it should have received as a result of several railway carriages being handed over to the private companies by the Department?
(b) Will he state—
(i) the income received by the Department of Railways by handing over the railway carriages to the private companies ; and
(ii) whether the privatization of the railway service is being contemplated by handing over carriages to private companies?
(c) Will he inform this House whether action will be taken to have the railway carriages handed over to the private sector returned to the Department of Railways and safeguard the railway service without allowing it to be privatized?
(d) If not, why ?
