1493/2025: LANDS BELONGING TO DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE CONSERVATION AND DEPARTMENT OF FOREST CONSERVATION: POLPITHIGAMA DS DIVISION

Hon. (Mrs.) Geetha Herath, Attorney at Law,— To ask the Minister of Environment,— (2)

(a) Will he state —

(i) the extent of land belonging to the Department of Wildlife Conservation and the Department of Forest Conservation in the Polpithigama Divisional Secretariat Division, as per Gazette Notification No. 566/5 dated 11.07.1989, separately;

(ii) whether the lands under possession, lands where people reside, and government lands held on grants within the relevant area were included, when the said Gazette Notification was issued;

(iii) whether the said lands have been surveyed and identified; and

(iv) whether the Hakwatunawa Reservoir and its reserve have been surveyed and demarcated?

(b) Will he also state —

(i) whether roads, electricity, and water facilities have been provided to the above wildlife region even after the gazzetting;

(ii) the number of government schools, Grama Niladhari offices, clinic centres, and temples in the said region;

(iii) the steps that have been taken by the officers of the Forest Conservation Office in Herathgama, to institute legal action under the State Lands (Recovery of Possession) Act; and

(iv) whether the lands currently possessed or occupied by individuals will be handed over to them?

(c) If not, why?
