Hon. (Dr.) Pathmanathan Sathiyalingam,— To ask the Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation,— (1)
(a) Will he accept that —
(i) the private lands in the vicinity of the Tachchankulam Airport in Vavuniya belonging to the Sri Lanka Air Force were acquired for the expansion of the airport and the public access to the roads that the local residents have long been using has been restricted;
(ii) in particular, the use of the Tachchankulam-Moonrumurippu main road has been prohibited to the general public for a long time; and
(iii) the people, living in the Tachchankulam village, have had to travel twelve kilometers instead of the usual two kilometers to reach the Grama Niladhari office to get their needs fulfilled, as a result?
(b) Will he inform this House —
(i) if so, whether steps will be taken to open the Tachchankulam - Moonrumurippu main road concerned above for public use; and
(ii) of the time that will be taken for it?
(c) If not, why?
