Hon. M.S. Uthumalebbe,— To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation,— (1)
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) whether he is aware that thousands of acres of paddy fields in the Samanthurai and Nindavur areas get submerged when the ‘Thoppi Kuda’ major canal on the Southern Bank Main Canal maintained by the Samanthurai Irrigation Office of the Irrigation Department, overflows;
(ii) whether the Irrigation Department has allocated financial provisions necessary for the permanent reconstruction of the canal referred to above;
(iii) if so, of the amount of the financial provision concerned; and
(iv) of the time needed for completing the reconstruction work of the canal concerned?
(b) If not, why?
