Hon. Sunil Rathnasiri,— To ask the Minister of Environment,— (1)
(a) Will he inform this House of the —
(i) current wild elephant population in Sri Lanka;
(ii) year in which the Red Data Book was last issued;
(iii) level of threat to wild elephants in Sri Lanka according it;
(iv) number of wild elephants and people who died due to the elephant-human conflict in 2024, separately; and
(v) amount of money paid in compensation in 2024 in respect of those who lost their lives and to those who suffered property damage due to elephant-human clashes?
(b) If not, why?
