0668/2025: JAFFNA TEACHING HOSPITAL: VOLUNTARY WORKERS

Hon. (Dr.) Ramanathan Archchuna,— To ask the Minister of Health and Mass Media,— (1)

(a) Is he aware that —

(i) Dr. Sathyamoorthy Thangumuththu, the Director of the Teaching Hospital, Jaffna has employed 170 individuals in the government sector over the past three years;

(ii) these employees have been paid less than Rs. 10,000/- per month for a maximum period of only 05 months out of their 36 months employment; and

(iii) such employment practices have violated the labor laws of Sri Lanka?

(b) Will he inform this House of the —

(i) basis on which these employees were appointed to the government sector; 

(ii) current employment status of these employees; and

(iii) reasons why no actions have been taken against Dr. Thangamuththu so far, despite  a written complaint being submitted over the past two months?

(c) If not, why?
