Hon. Hesha Withanage Ankumbura Arachchi,— To ask the Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development,— (1)
(a) Will he admit that —
(i) the government sets a maximum price for some consumer goods from time to time; and
(ii) those goods are sold by some traders at higher prices ?
(b) Will he inform this House of the —
(i) name of the agency that raids the shops selling those goods at higher prices;
(ii) number of raids per month carried out by the aforesaid agency;
(iii) penalties that can be imposed on the persons selling goods at higher prices; and
(iv) actions taken against the shops that continue to sell goods at higher prices?
(c) If not, why?
