Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara,— To ask the Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security,—
(a) Will he inform this House of—
(i) the size of the rice reserve that should be maintained by the government annually;
(ii) the institutions that maintain the said reserve; and
(iii) the method used to obtain rice for the reserve?
(b) Will he also inform this House of—
(i) the size of the rice reserve that had been maintained by the government from 2017 to 2021, separately for each year;
(ii) the amount of rice released from the reserve during that period, separately for each year; and
(iii) the institutions to which rice was released from the said reserve?
(c) Will he further inform this House of—
(i) the reasons for not maintaining a rice reserve sufficient for the annual requirement;
(ii) the impact on the economy of Sri Lanka owing to not maintaining a sufficient rice reserve?
If not, why?
