Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara,— To ask the Minister of Education,—
(a) Will he admit—
(i) that the cost incurred on the printing of term test papers and other assignments in schools is currently charged from the parents; and
(ii) that bearing these expenses has become immensely difficult for the parents due to the economic crisis currently prevailing?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether the right to enjoy reasonable and equal access to education entitled to all the citizens through the constitution gets violated owing to payments of the above nature;
(ii) whether he is aware that there is no alternative for the principals and the education officers, other than charging the printing expenses from parents in this manner;
(iii) if so, of the measures that will be taken by the ministry in relation to these payments charged; and
(iv) whether measures will be taken to limit or to halt the provision of school text books owing to the prevailing situation?
(c) If not, why?
