Hon. Milan Jayathilake,— To ask the Minister of Plantation Industries,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) farmers cultivated Turmeric abundantly in the recent past;
(ii) the Spices and Related Products Marketing Board purchased that Turmeric harvest; and
(iii) as at present, the price of Turmeric has gone down?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether steps have been taken to import Turmeric from India; and
(ii) whether a programme has been prepared to purchase the Turmeric harvest of the farmers with a view to encouraging them?
(c) If not, why?
