Hon. Gamini Waleboda,— To ask the Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether he is aware that converting printed books into PDF format and distributing them for the purpose of gaining profits without obtaining prior permission of the authors of such books has caused a grave injustice to the authors of those books; and
(ii) the steps that have been taken to curb this situation and to serve justice to the authors who have been subjected to such injustices?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether he admits that it is important to convert into PDF format and conserve the books of which printed copies are not available at present; and
(ii) if so, the measures that have been taken in that regard?
(c) If not, why?
