Hon. Buddhika Pathirana,— To ask the Minister of Transport,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) a fraud of Rs. 6400 million has taken place in the Department of Motor Traffic as per the report released by the Auditor General’s Department in the year 2010;
(ii) this fraud has been committed by inserting the number of the vehicles already registered for the vehicles made with imported body parts of vehicles; and
(iii) the government is losing a large income as a result?
(b) If so, will he inform this House whether action will be taken to hold a formal inquiry into the aforesaid fraud and mete out severe punishment to culprits?
(c) If not, why?
