Hon. Ranjan Ramanayake,— To ask the Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) many workers who migrate to the Middle East Countries for foreign employment do not possess knowledge on the Sharia Law and other laws in force in those countries ; and
(ii) as a result they encounter many problems while being engaged in foreign employment?
(b) Will he state—
(i) whether there is a programme for seeking legal aid for Sri Lankan migrant workers who are found guilty under the laws of the Middle East Countries due to their lack of knowledge regarding laws of those countries ;
(ii) if not, whether action will be taken to introduce such a programme to enable migrant workers to avoid problems faced by them ; and
(iii) if so, the date on which such a programme will be introduced?
(c) If not, why?
