522/2020 Hon. Amarakeethi Athukorale,— To ask the Minister of Agriculture,— (a) Will he inform the House of the number of milk farmers, milk cows, cattle and buffalos in the Polonnaruwa District separately? (b) Will he also inform the House— (i) of the densest areas in terms of the number of milk farmers within the Polonnaruwa District; (ii) whether the Government has provided them with milk cows and the number; (iii) of the date on which milk cows were last provided in that District and how many of them survive to this day; (iv) whether the Government have made available grass lands for feeding milk cows, if so, what extent; and (v) whether grass lands have been identified to be made available to milk farmers in future? (c) Will he further inform this House — (i) of the percentage of the contribution by milk farmers of the Polonnaruwa District to Sri Lanka’s overall daily milk production; (ii) what amount of milk is extracted every day from the milk cows in the District; and (iii) what amount of that milk is purchased daily by the National Livestock Development Board/ Milco Private Limited and the price paid per litre for the milk? (d) If not, why?
