455/2020 Hon. Ishak Rahuman,— To ask the Minister of Wildlife & Forest Conservation,—(a) Is he aware that— (i) the residents of Grama Niladari Divisions bearing numbers 225, 226 and 227 respective of the Medawachchiya Divisional Secretariat Division in the Anuradhapura district have been faced with a situation where they are induced to migrate to other places, leaving their lands behind, owing to the threat created by the elephants; and (ii) a solution has not hitherto been given to this situation by the authorities, in spite of the requests made by the residents of the said divisions regarding the need for constructing an electric fence for elephants? (b) If so, will he inform this House of the steps to be taken by the Ministry in this regard?(c) If not, why?
