Hon. (Mrs.) Rohini Kumari Wijerathna,— To ask the Minister of Irrigation,—
(a) Will he inform this House of the present situation of the Wayamba Ela Project, which is being constructed at present?
(b) Will he admit that—
(i) payment of compensation to owners of the free hold lands that have been acquired for the aforesaid project is irregular; and
(ii) when paying compensation for temple lands, the amount of compensation paid to those who possess such lands is not adequate?
(c) If so, will he also inform this House whether action will be taken to pay a fair amount of compensation to those who possess such lands?
(d) Will he further inform this House—
(i) whether he admits that, as the Ranwediyawa section of the canal that is being constructed at present is more than 40 feet deep, drinking water wells and agricultural wells around that section have gone dry, and it has caused severe hardships to the people in the area;
(ii) if so, whether immediate steps will be taken to provide solutions to the aforesaid people who are faced with severe hardships; and
(iii) the nature of such solutions?
(e) If not, why?
