Hon. Mayantha Dissanayake,— To ask the Minister of Agriculture,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) the total extent of land under paddy cultivation in Sri Lanka by now;
(ii) the extent of paddy lands out of that total extent?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) the extent of barren paddy fields in Sri Lanka at present;
(ii) whether there is a plan to cultivate those barren lands; and
(iii) whether there is a proper supply of seeds and fertilizer required for that purpose?
(c) Will he further inform this House—
(i) whether it has been planned to provide necessary machinery needed for cultivation at subsidized prices; and
(ii) whether an attractive plan is being implemented to fill the lacuna in the labour force that has been created due to the lack of interest shown by the young people towards agriculture?
(d) If not why?
