0899/2011: Cirrhosis on Alchol consumption

Hon. Gamini Jayawickrama Perera,— To ask the Minister of Health,—

(a) Will he state whether a person who has fallen ill due to the consumption of liquor is charged a fee, when such a person is admitted to a government hospital?

(b) Is he aware that types of ‘arishta’ containing alcohol and drugs containing cannabis are used for treatment in Ayurvedic medicine and that cirrhosis which is caused by liquor consumption is caused due to long term reception of such treatment as well?

(c) Will he inform this House—

(i) whether there is an accepted method to find out whether cirrhosis has been caused due to alcohol consumption or due to Ayurvedic treatment in the above mentioned manner ; and

(ii) if so, what that method is?

(d) If not, why?
