Hon. Harin Fernando,— To ask the Minister of Agrarian Services and Wildlife,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether the erection of electric fences to minimize Human - Elephant conflict takes place according to proper standards ;
(ii) the dates of commencement and completion of the erection of electric fences proposed to be erected in Rideemaliyadda, Mahiyangana, Kandeketiya, Meegahakiula, Uva Paranagama and Haldummulla areas in the Badulla district ;
(iii) whether, there is a delay in the commencement of the erection of those electric fences ; and
(iv) if so, the reasons for it?
(b) Will he admit the facts that—
(i) a delay occurs in the payment of compensation in relation to damages caused by elephant attacks ; and
(ii) the compensation paid in relation to such damage at present is not sufficient?
(c) Will he state, whether a suitable course of action will be taken speedily to expedite the payment of compensation and increase the amount paid as compensation?
(d) If not, why
