Hon. Buddhika Pathirana,— To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious & Cultural Affairs and Minister of Urban Development & Housing,—
(a) Will he admit that—
(i) there is a network of tunnels with historical importance in Sri Lanka;
(ii) these tunnels are falling into decay due to lack of proper exploration and conservation; and
(iii) these tunnels can be used for the promotion of defence and transport affairs and tourism industry of the country by taking steps to explore and conserve them?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether the government will take steps to start the exploration of historical tunnels;
(ii) if so, what those steps will be; and
(iii) of the amount expected to be spent for that?
(c) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether the government will take steps to conserve the tunnels that have been discovered;
(ii) if so, what those steps will be; and
(iii) of the amount expected to be spent for that?
(d) If not, why?
